6 Mar 1771: a Marquis Calmes wit Lease of 400 acres by Thomas Jones from William Neill of Fred. Co., to pay 15 lbs on 24th Apr ea yr. Other witnesses Saml Oldham, Humy Wells. Recorded 5 Mar 1771.

The daughter of Marques Calmes II and his wife, Winnifred Waller. Marquis Calmes, immigrated to the US from France via Haiti during the mid to latter 1700s, and settled in Virginia and evidently fairly affluent. He is listed as one of the cens "enumerators" in the 1784 Heads of Families list for Hampshire Co, Virginia.
He brought with him from Haiti a servent girl whose ancestry is unknown, whether French, indigenous Haitian, or of African origin. She eventually met and and fell in love witth a Cherokee Indian from the south named Harris. A daughter was n to them known as Priscilla Harris. She grew up on the Calmes plantation, a "beautiful girl, olive complexion, black eyes, and long black hair - long enough that she could sit on it."

She was the granddaughter of Marques CALMES, born c1675, a French Huguenot nobleman thought to have fled from France after the revocation of the Edict of Nantes; he resided in England in 1686 and migrated to America c 1895. He settled in Stard County, Virginia, where he was granted land on Aquia Creek.
