    • Johnnie Dawson (J.D.) Lightfoot, 89, of Palestine, Texas died November 26, 2006. Burial in Land of Memory Cemetery was under the direction of Bailey & Foster, Palestine.
      He was surrounded by family and friends, as they sang "I'll Fly Away." He was born in the Concord community in Anderson County to a family with a history of deep Christian roots. His grandparents were among the first settlers of Anderson County. His parents were Nancy Hathcock Lightfoot and Alfred Orin Lightfoot. He was the fourth of nine children. As a boy he did the usual farm work and after graduation from Montalba High School he graduated from Lon Morris College in Jacksonville. He worked at Lacy Creamery and taught as a substitute teacher at Montalba School. He served in the Pacific Theater during World War II, where he received the Bronze Star. He met his wife of sixty years who was also serving in the military. He was active in the annual reunions of the 36th Military Police of Texas and hosted the 61st reunion in September 2006. After returning from WWII he graduated from air conditioning and refrigeration school in Dallas and returned to Palestine where he taught refrigeration for several years. Later he co-founded Lightfoot & Owens Refrigeration which became Lightfoot Air Conditioning and Refrigeration, Inc. After retiring in 1982 he moved to Lake Palestine where he enjoyed lake life, catching fish and baiting trot lines. He moved back to Palestine in the early ?90s and enjoyed gardening, family and friends. He was an active member of Westwood United Methodist Church. He also was a charter member of the Evening Lions Club. His children, grandchildren, family and friends will never forget his generosity and unconditional love. Mr. Lightfoot was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Sallye Mae Kelly; brothers, J.G., Alfred, Owen, and W.T.; and a granddaughter, Stephnie Lynn Lively. He is survived by his wife, Helen Shoop Lightfoot; son, Alfred Irvin and wife Cathy of Palestine; daughters, Robbie Nell Banks and husband Rondell of Forney and Joan Lively of Palestine; grandchildren, Jay Lively and wife Michelle, Jeri Cleveland and husband Chuck, all of Palestine, Renee Banks of St. Louis, Mo., Rhonda Banks of Orlando, Fla., Alicia Wilson and husband Chad of Charlotte, N.C., Alan Dawson Lightfoot and wife Kim of Thorndale, Pa.; great grandchildren, Courtney, Jayme, Ian, and Aaren Lively, and Jaci and Carli Cleveland, all of Palestine, Chloe Bea Lightfoot of Thorndale, Pa.; brother, A.D. "Cot" Lightfoot and wife Jim of Palestine; sisters, Jessie Lee of Poynor and Lucretia "Cricket" Andrews of Palestine; a host of nieces and nephews; special friend Deena Rickard; and J.D.'s beloved dachshund, Sarah.
