      Time Line:

      1701
Abel Ray was born at Salem, MA, on 6 Jun 1701 and baptized at Salem Village, MA on 14 Jun 1702. He was the son of Samuel and Mary ( ) Ray.

      1722
Abe1 Ray married at Salem, on 3 Jan 1722/3, Hannah Goodell.

It is likely that soon after his marriage, if not before, Abel moved to Marlborough, MA, where he resided until 1734.

      1723
By 1723 Able was referred to as "of Marlborough" when he performed the following real estate transaction.

Abel sold to Zachariah Goodell, his father-in-law, "thirty one acres and a quarter of land be the same more or less,... ", lying in Marlborough on 14 Jan 1740/1.

      1733
Abel sold 9 1/4 acres in the part of Marlborough called the Indian Lands to Hezekiah Bush for £55. He called it "part of the land where I now dwell."

      1734
On 3 Sep 1734 Abel sold "my homestead lot where I now dwell" in two parcels of 11 3/4 acres each: the southeastern half to John Hapgood for £54..10 and the northwestern half to Hezekiah Bush for the same price.

Next Abel appears with property and being noted as a resident in Wrenham. This was a brief two year stay from 1734 to 1736.

      1736
In 1736 Abel sold his land at Wrentham and bought land at Stoughton, MA, which he sold in 1738.

It is assumed Abel moved to Stoughton while he owed that property for another brief two year stay from 1738 to 1738. Following sale of Stoughton, Abel must have returned to Marlborough as he shows up as being a resident in 1740.

      1740
On 14 Jan 1740/1 he sold to Ephraim Maynard a little over 32 acres in Marlborough.

      1748
From 28 Mar to 7 Dec 1748 Abel Ray served in Captain Williams' company in King George's War. It was an inconclusive struggle between France and Britain, aided by their Indian allies, for mastery of North America (1744 ? 1748).

      1751
In 1751 Abel transferred his land at Marlborough and all his personal property to his wife Hannah and his son Abel Ray.

      1759
In 1759 Abel served in the French and Indian War as a Private in Captain John Hoar's company at Crown Point, from which he supposedly deserted. However, he enlisted again in 1760.

The French and Indian War was a seven-year war, 1754-1763, between England and the American colonies, against the French and some of the Indians in North America. When the war ended, France was no longer in control of Canada. The Indians that had been threatening the American colonists were defeated.

      1760
Abel Ray died at Shrewsbury, MA, on 24 May 1760 on a march with the Army in the French and Indian Wars.

      1762
His son Abner Ray petitioned the General Court for Abel Ray's back wages and billeting and on 29 Jan 1762 he was awarded £3..12 for the wages and 13s..4d for billeting.
